Course Content


Typical courses are described below , however ,all courses are flexible to meet the aims of the participants. All techniques will be practiced during actual climbing situations.


Introduction to climbing:-

 
-Introductions to participants and venue, a brief discussion on aspirations, summary of days objectives, safety briefing and kit check.
-Warm-up and stretching with some easy climbing/bouldering - looking at climbing movement.
-Basic equipment.
-Knots, belay techniques, bottom rope system, climbing movement and lowering.
-Route grading and guide book use.
-Identifying anchors and creating belays.
-Belaying from above, top rope system.
-Lowering from above and abseiling.
-Review of above.

Climbing outdoors for the indoor climber:-


-Introductions to participants and venue, a brief discussion on aspirations, summary of days objectives, safety briefing and kit check.
-Main differences between indoors and outdoors - conditions, crag use, equipment, e.t.c.
-Warm-up climbing using bottom rope system and review of belay techniques.
-Climbing movement on natural climbs.
-Use of additional equipment for outdoor climbing.
-Route choice / grading and interpretation of guide books.
-Selection of anchors and creating belays for top and bottom rope systems.
-Belaying from above, top rope system.
-Lowering from above and abseiling.
-Review of above.

Introduction to lead climbing:-



-Introductions to participants and venue, a brief discussion on aspirations, summary of days objectives, safety briefing and kit check.
-Warm-up climbing using bottom rope system and review of belay techniques.
-Route choice / grading and interpretation of guide books.
-Use of equipment for outdoor climbing.
-Introduction to the lead rope system.
-Placing runners as protection.
-Selection of anchors and creating belays.
-Belay techniques for lead climbing systems.
-Protecting the second.
-Multi-pitch climbing.
-Lowering, abseiling and multiple abseils.
-Simple problem solving.
-Review of above.
